RAW Files Look Darker In Lightroom

Written by kingbob on December 16th, 2011

I’ve been struggling with lightroom issues of late, and this is to do with how Canon and Lightroom handle RAW files differently. Trawling the web others seem to have the same issue. RAW files look darker in Lightroom than they do in the image preview on the camera and how Canon’s DPP program renders them. After some research, I discovered that this is mainly due to the color profile Adobe uses for RAW files and the difference between that and what the camera uses. For RAW files, Lightroom uses the Prophoto RGB colourspace to render all files. Most cameras would probably be using sRGB colourspace. Because Prophoto is a wider colour gamut than sRGB the colour values are different and to have them in that range they appear darker. sRGB has a more compressed colourspace and hence the colours appear slightly brighter for the same colour values.

Can’t See External SD Card On Android With ES File Explorer

Written by kingbob on December 7th, 2011

I had this issue with my Acer Iconia A500. I couldn’t see the external SD card with the default install of ES File Explorer. Simple fix for this issue. Go into the settings of ES File Explorer and change the root directory to just ‘/’ instead of ‘/sdcard/’ (exclude the quotation marks) which shows the internal memory only. This will allow you to navigate to the root of the storage directory. If you are using an Acer Iconia A500 you can set the root directory to ‘/mnt/’ which is the directory where you can access the sd card, the internal memory and USB memory if you have it plugged in. Note that the internal storage is named ‘sdcard’ and the sd card is called ‘sdcard-ext’. Hope this helps some people.

Written by kingbob on December 6th, 2011

Last weekend I shot an engagement party. Had a great time and a lot of fun doing it. Some great people there. I wanted to share these two candid shots I took while I was just wandering around the hall. I really like these two.

St Andrew’s Hospital Toowoomba Show And Shine 2011

Written by kingbob on November 26th, 2011

I went along to the charity show and shine event this afternoon held at St Andrew’s hospital, Toowoomba, to check out some nice cars and take a few photos. This is what I came up with. Also, I have to add that automotive photography is so much more fun with an UWA lens apart from the fact that it’s a pain to try get photos symmertical.

Processing, Single RAW File Vs Multiple RAW Files

Written by kingbob on November 22nd, 2011

A RAW file can contain mountains of information about a shot. The below photo was processed from a single RAW file of a sunset this afternoon. In the original file, the sky was slightly blown out and the ground was very underexposed.

After Study

Written by kingbob on November 4th, 2011

I was leaving uni this afternoon after studying for my exams and the sun had just set turning the sky a great colour. I drove around to a nearby field that just happened to have little purple flowers blossoming all over it that added a nice touch to the photo.

Tuesday Evening Sunset

Written by kingbob on October 26th, 2011

I went out Tuesday afternoon to try catch the sunset. There were some promising looking clouds in the sky that I was hoping would give me some great scenery.
