Went out for a few hours with a mate to take some photos. Day was ruined a bit because I didn’t check my camera settings closely enough!

Testing Video on Canon 60D

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

I put this together just so I could see what my 60D was capable of. I am definately no videographer and should probably stick to still images. When it’s actually in focus (manual focus), it’s very sharp. A DSLR allows you to play with depth of field very easily which is something that a normal video camera struggles with. This lets you get some cool out of focus action otherwise known as ‘bokeh’ in your videos. This was shot with a 50mm f/1.8II and a 24-105mm f/4L IS.

RAAF History In Flight

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

Taken at the 2008 Amberly AFB Airshow in Queensland Australia, this is a view of some of the major aircraft the Royal Australian Air Force has had at it’s disposal over it’s history.

RAAF History

Left to right: P-51 Mustang, de Havilland Vampire, Gloster Meteor, BAE Hawk, McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet.

If I made an error with the names feel free to tell me.

Dump And Burn!

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Looking through my old photos I found this clip of an F-111 performing a dump and burn at the 2008 Amberly AFB Airshow. This is sadly something we won’t be able to see any more because the F-111 has finally been retired from active service in Australia.

Enjoy.

Online Shopping And Why I Do It

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

Recently in Australia there has been a big beat up in the press about online shopping from some of the major retailers. Their issue is that overseas imports under $1000AUD do not attract the 10% GST that you would have to pay if you purchased the item in Australia. Click to continue »

Don’t bother with low-end DSLR cameras? I disagree.

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

When I was researching my dslr purchase last year, I was told by people not to bother wit the low-end cameras, and to spend a bit more on a better body. In the end I couldn’t justify the higher price of the other bodies here in Australia being a uni student so I opted to get the lowest model in the Canon range, the 1000D (or Rebel XS in North America). Update on HTC Desire

HTC Desire

After waiting for what seems like forever for my carrier Telstra to release the latest version of Android (2.2 also known as Froyo) for my HTC Desire, I gave in and rooted the phone so I could install a custom rom. Started off with the stock HTC rom which was a step forward and gave the phone some of the functionality it was missing. Then I started checking out alternative 3rd party roms and one that I came across was T-mod. This is a version of LeeDroid’s custom HTC rom with added functionality that has been modified to work properly with Telstra’s unmetered and mobile specific content services. I doubt I could go back to the stock 2.2 rom once Telstra releases it because this custom rom has so much extra functionality over the stock rom. And, to top it off, there’s finally an Android version of Angry Birds!

Only downside is I now have no warranty… but I can live with those consequences because this phone is now living up to it’s full potential.

Inception is Epic!

Inception

I can’t get this film out of my head. It’s layered, it’s complicated yet simple, and it’s immersive. I’ve seen a lot of films and this is by far one of my favourites. I won’t spoil anything for those who haven’t seen it. DiCaprio is definitely showing his true skills here as are the whole cast. Nolan has done a phenomenal job directing this film. If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend you see it immediately.

Budget Blu-Ray HTPC Guide

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Some of you may have heard about HTPC’s and some of you may not. Basically, HTPC stands for Home Theatre Personal Computer and they give you a lot of multimedia functionality right in your living room that you wouldn’t get from your standard DVD player. You can watch DVD’s, videos you have downloaded, watch and record television, listen to mp3’s and CD’s and watch Blu-Ray movies without needing a separate expensive player.  I’m going to give you a quick guide on how to build one of these bad boys without breaking the bank. Converting a 21 speed bike to 27 speed

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Hello I’ve just about finished converting my mountain bike from a 21-speed to a 27-speed. I thought I’d write about what it involved, and maybe it’ll help someone who wants to do the same thing.

First thing’s first. The bike. In 2006 I purchased myself a Trek 3700 MTB. At the time it was the most expensive bike I had ever owned and I thought it was fantastic. This was true for the first year or so, then components started to break. I realised the quality of the gear on the bike was not meant to take the punishment I was giving it, so I eventually had the idea to replace the components with higher end gear that would hopefully last longer and take more punishment.
